It will be a way tougher task to dethrone the Raptor. Well, not too many believed the truck is going to break the dominance of two largest US truckmakers, but here we are. Now, FCA is trying something many believed is impossible – to challenge Ford. Ram 1500 sells better than Silverado pickup. The best moment to launch the TRX version is now. The company had it all – excellent truck and proven drivetrain. Well, when you buy a 700+ hp rated monster, then the fuel-friendly nature is not what to expect.įor a long time the 2022 Ram TRX Hellcat was in the air. Only Demon configuration can squeeze more power from the same unit. The new model became the most powerful SUV with 710 hp, 3 hp more than Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.Ī 6.2-liter supercharged V8 mill is tuned for 702 horsepower. At the same time, FCA added the same engine to Durango. But, when your configuration is making over 700 horsepower, a 5 hp cut is not making a difference. Well, engineers didn’t fulfilled the promise entirely. But now, the Hellcat unit is the highlight of the entire lineup. You can pick an engine for the standard Ram 1500 from a long list. After more than two years, the 2022 Ram TRX Hellcat is finally here. The clock showing 7:07 indicated that the performance-model could be added. Ram also made some threats during the premiere of the latest generation of the half-ton pickup. General Motors made some shy moves by announcing Silverado ZRX and Reaper trucks. This off-road monster didn’t have the competition. For a long time Ford was dominant with its Raptor pickup. That’s all for now, I’m going cross-eyed.But, let’s get back to the truck segment. I’m not going to say that flow doesn’t matter at all, but that some place too much emphasis on it. With synthetic media, it doesn’t need to be one or the other, however it does hold up that the least efficient filter in the test did have the lowest pressure differential. Note that the Fram Ultra is the most efficient in the test, but also one of the better flowing filters. At lower flow rates, the difference is much less. But even at that “worst case scenario”, the difference in delta-P between the highest and lowest flowing filter is only around 6 PSI. That oil flow may not even be seen at WOT, let alone in normal driving. They were tested all the way up to 50 LPM, or 13.2 GPM. But this test illustrates the pressure differential across various filters for various flow rates, and how evenly matched any off the shelf filters are. Much is made about “high flowing filters”, usually accompanied by nebulous flow charts. The Wix isn’t even on the scale in the second one. The first chart shows the impressive efficiency of some, and not so impressive efficiency of the Wix XP. These are for a different application, but the data is still interesting. Now, some independent testing I scraped up. This allows them to claim “99% efficient” even though the actual rating at 20 microns would be lower. In some cases, the manufacturer will only publish at 25 or 30 microns. In my first post, the chart shows efficiency specs provided by the manufacturer when possible. I’ll try to keep this it short and digestible. Wouldn’t use it on the TRX but for an old beater or something it’s perfect. That doesn’t mean that none of the oil is getting filtered, just that some isn’t. Cold starts, WOT with cold oil, they all very well could by in bypass.

In normal driving with hot oil, none of the filters demonstrated should be bypassing. Bypass pressures and does it matter? The bypass in any oil filter is there to ensure that the pressure differential across the filter does not exceed a set PSI, as that could lead to filter media failure and/or oil starvation.
